The European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) is Europe’s premier venue for presenting scientific results in AI. We are honoured to host the 26th edition of ECAI (ECAI 2023) in person, in Krakow, one of Europe’s most stunning cities.

• Double Blind Submission. Submissions are anonymous, and must conform to the instructions for double-blind review.
• ​Special track for AI for social good.
• Coordination with IJCAI-23: The submission deadline for technical papers of ECAI 2023 will occur 18 days after notification of acceptance from IJCAI-23. Authors who wish may include (as a supplementary file) their IJCAI reviews in their submission, including a letter stating how they revised their paper accordingly. Further details below.
• Authors of papers submitted to the conference may be called on to assist with reviewing papers.
• Authors will be required to adhere to ethical research policies on AI and may include an ethics statement  in their papers.
• Each individual author is limited to no more than a combined limit of 8 submissions to the ECAI 2023 technical track and authors may not be added or deleted from papers following submission.

Papers should be formatted according to the ECAI 2023 formatting style linked below. Submission and review of papers for ECAI 2020 will be managed via CMT Scientific papers are DOUBLE BLIND and cannot exceed 7 pages (not including references and supplementary material) plus one (1) additional page for references only. Overlength submissions will be rejected without review.

ECAI 2023 submissions should be submitted as a PDF document, conforming to the formatting guidelines:
 
Three kinds of supplementary material may be submitted alongside all papers: (1) technical appendix; (2) multimedia; (3) code and data. There is no restriction on the length of the supplementary material.


ECAI-23 will not consider any paper that, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in an archival venue such as a journal or a conference. (Workshops and preprint servers such as arXiv are acceptable)


All submissions will be subject to peer review by the ECAI 2023 Programme Committee. Scientific papers will be evaluated based on relevance, significance of contribution, impact, technical quality, scholarship and quality of presentation. During the author response phase, the authors of submitted papers will be offered the opportunity to respond to the reviews for their papers before the final acceptance decision is made.
Attendance: At least one author of each accepted paper is required to participate in the conference and present the work.
 

Authors of rejected IJCAI-23 papers are able to submit their paper to ECAI 2023 in one of two ways. 

1. Submit as a new paper to ECAI without linking IJCAI. In this case the paper will be reviewed by at least 3 ECAI reviewers.
2. Declare a resubmission of a rejected paper from IJCAI. This is made possible after you submit your paper. In this case we ask you to submit your ECAI 2023 paper along with 1) your original IJCAI-23 submission; 2) the IJCAI-23 reviews and meta-review and 3) a letter detailing how the paper was changed based on the reviews. 

The ECAI 2023 program committee will decide to add one or two additional ECAI reviews to the paper at their discretion. The IJCAI reviews will not be shown to the new reviewers until the discussion phase.
It is also possible for an ECAI23 submission to be based on an AAMAS23 accepted abstract by using the IJCAI23 resubmission track and supplying the original reviews,  letter how paper was extended, etc.


Research reported in ECAI 2023 should avoid harm, be honest and trustworthy, fair and non-discriminatory, and respect privacy and intellectual property. The ACM (https://www.acm.org/code-of-ethics), the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (https://allea.org/code-of-conduct/) and AAAI  (https://www.aaai.org/Conferences/code-of-ethics-and-conduct.php) codes of ethics provide guidelines that we wish to promote.
 
When relevant, authors can include in the main body of their paper, or on the reference page, an ethics statement that addresses both ethical issues regarding the research being reported, and the broader ethical impact of the work.
 
Reviewers will be asked to flag violations of ethical and/or fairness considerations. Such flagged submissions will be reviewed by the Ethics Chair. Authors may be required to revise their submission to include discussion of possible ethical concerns and their  mitigation.

We have adopted the AAAI policy for use of generative models in ECAI publications. 
It is our policy that any AI system, including Generative Models such as Chat-GPT, BARD, and DALL-E, does not satisfy the criteria for authorship, nor can it be used as a citable source, in ECAI publications, including all associated conferences (e.g., PAIS, STAIRS) and ECAI workshops.
Further, the use of any AI system in the development of an ECAI publication is only allowed if its role is properly documented in the manuscript. Ultimately, all authors are responsible for the entire content of their papers, including text, figures, references, and appendices
 

All individuals involved in the ECAI 2023 review process must adhere to the ECAI ethical guidelines and conflict of interest policy. Authors and reviewers acknowledge that we may take action upon individuals in breach with the conflict of interest policy.
 

All submissions will be treated in strict confidence until the publication date.


The best papers in ECAI will be invited to the Conference Award track in the Journal of AI Research (JAIR) and a special fast track procedure for Artificial Intelligence Journal (AIJ).


The proceedings of the conference will be published by IOS Press and made freely available at the IOS website.
 

ECAI 2023 is proud to host two sister conferences. The Conference on  Prestigious Applications of Intelligent Systems (PAIS-23)  and STAIRS the European Starting AI Researchers’ Symposium (STAIRS-23). A separate call for papers will be issued for both sister conferences.
